Mentee Spotlight: Erin Leyh, CORE Program- Class #18

by W2WM Senior Program Assistant Andrea Baker

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am a Children’s Librarian for Frederick County Public Libraries at the Thurmont and Emmitsburg Branches.

WHAT WERE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A MENTOR?

I wanted someone who could help me get organized and keep me accountable. I knew exactly what I wanted to accomplish; I just needed an extra push! I knew a mentor could help me with this.

WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM YOUR MENTOR?

Cyndi has taught me so much! Not only does she have a lot of business knowledge, but she is constantly providing me with new resources that she comes across. She is always trying to better herself and she still teaching me to do the same.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO IS SEEKING OUT THEIR OWN MENTOR?

Be completely honest with yourself about what you want from your mentor. You will not get as much out of your partnership unless you know what your goals are, and you can clearly communicate those ideas.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST TAKE-AWAY FROM W2WM’s CORE PROGRAM?

I have met so many inspiring women in this program and I know that those connections will last. It is so comforting to know new people with different backgrounds, who can provide you with a connection if you need one. It also makes me feel good to know I can now do the same as an alum!

WHAT ARE THOSE SIGNS THAT YOU AND YOUR MENTOR ARE HOLDING?

S.H.E. Week signs! S.H.E. Week, hosted by the Frederick Chamber of Commerce, is centered around Women’s Equality Day and is an empowering networking experience. If this week and all the sessions I’ve attended have taught me anything, it’s that absolutely nothing can stop the power of women. Not adversity, not racism, and certainly not a pandemic. I am so proud to live in a community that provides countless opportunities to lift up and encourage all its people.

S.H.E. Pitch is a new and exciting part of The Frederick County Chamber of Commerce’s S.H.E. Week event!

S.H.E. Pitch  is a pitch competition for female CEOs – or “S.H.E.-EOs” – designed to give businesses both in the “idea stage” and “growth stage” cash prizes, publicity and networking opportunities.
